Final Submission Design

Overall design

studio space (upper ground)

Gallery space

studio space (under ground)

the stairs to upper studio

the design was created inspired by the word man for the upper level and dark/black for the basement. The uses of geometric shapes suggest the word man, as common perspective describe man as a straight "thing". The underground suggest the word dark, through the uses of dark pattern and color through all the underground design. One of my favorite part of the design is the contrast of color between the upper and underground, in which the transparent color dominating the upper level in contrast with very dark color for the basement. however, the contrast on the color do not distract the design, but still creates the good relationship in the design.

Research of Artist

Fiona Hall

Hall work with nature in designing, it can be seen from one of her famous bird nest design which suggest the nature as her inspiration in design. Hall also use the straight logic, avoiding abstract thinking in designing, so the design can be easily interpreted without ambiguous thinking.

Rosalie Gascoigne
Earth 3, 1999

The color ceramic panel was inspired by the earth. the colorful panel, suggest the elements in the earth, and the elements are interpreted through the contrast of the color which were managed through all the panel service. In designing, Gascoigne was also inspired by the nature of earth. She uses the range of material for the design, such as weathered plyboards, printed metal, torn linoleum, scallop shells and corrugated iron.
